An image has been posted by MacRumors showing some images found in the iBooks app with double the resolution (2048 x 1536) than the one currently being used on the iPad. The recent leak of specs has said that the iPad will have a retina display like upgrade. Although it’s not a true “retina display” since it’s not at the iPhone’s 326 PPI, many are saying since the iPad will be used from further away, you will not be able to see the pixels at 260 DPI.

The iPad 2 rumor once created huge excitement.

Back then, people believed Apple would double the iPad’s screen resolution.

The leaked images from the iBooks app showed 2048 x 1536 graphics.

This hinted at a major display jump. It was big news at the time.

Today, that rumor feels historic. But it shows how fast Apple changed the tablet market.

The idea of a high-resolution iPad screen sounded bold then. Now, it feels normal.

Current iPads have far sharper displays.

Apple later introduced full Retina screens on many models. The company even pushed into ProMotion and advanced LCD tech.

The old leak helped shape expectations. It came from developers digging into app files. They found double-resolution assets in iBooks.

That discovery fueled discussions everywhere.

Many believed Apple was ready to move iPads to sharper displays.

Even though the DPI was lower than the iPhone’s, it still looked crisp from a distance.

Looking back, the rumor was a preview of Apple’s direction. The iPad later became a device known for great screens.

Artists, students, and creators rely on the display quality today. At that time, though, the jump felt dramatic.

The old story also shows how tech reporting worked then. Leaks came from app packages and small clues.

Today, leaks are far larger. Supply chain photos, CAD models, and analyst reports create bigger waves.

But the iBooks discovery was enough to trigger global interest.

This rumor also changed user expectations. People began wanting sharper tablets. They wanted text to look smooth.

They wanted better video quality. Apple noticed this demand quickly. The company improved display design year after year.

In 2025, the old iPad 2 rumor feels like a key moment. It marked the start of Apple’s focus on high-resolution tablet screens.

Today’s iPad displays are far ahead. But the idea began with hints like this.

Even now, these old leaks help understand Apple’s strategy. The company often hides future changes inside its software.

Developers still find clues in app code today. History continues to repeat itself.

Overall, the old 2048 x 1536 rumor was more than news.

It was a signal of Apple’s long-term plan. And when we look at modern iPads, that plan is clear. Apple kept pushing screen quality higher every year.
