Ukraine receives more HMMWVs from the US
Ukrainian Armed Forces received a new batch of HMMWVs, commonly known as Humvees, from the US.
According to “Dumskay” newspaper, another batch of military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine arrived in the port of Odessa on 9 April. The Sea Amazon cargo ship under the flag of Malta delivered 175 tons of weapons from the United States, including 35 HMMWV off-road vehicles.
“A ship docked at about 8 a.m., after which 15 ambulance vehicles and 20 Humvees left through the rear ramp,” said in Dumskay’s report.
This is the third batch of HMMWV, which delivered to Ukraine after the start of the Russian aggression. The first was in 2015, the second – in the fall of 2017. In total, according to various sources, the US government donated from 230 to 300 vehicles.
Ukrainian armed forces have some experience of operating Humvees brought to troops earlier.
The HMMWV continues to be the vehicle of choice as the workhorse for militaries around the world. HMMWVs are used in more than 60 partner nations, continuously evolving with significantly increased mobility, protection, reliability and durability in order to meet changing military missions and threats at an affordable price.
There are approximately 230,000 HMMWVs currently in vehicle fleets around the world.
