Employer asks employee to give two weeks notice after previously telling them that their position was going to be terminated.
A colleague of mine was recently informed that their position would be terminated for budget reasons. They are continuing to work here for several more weeks but today they mentioned that their boss informed them that they would have to submit a two week notice to HR. This seems wrong to me and I can see it affecting their benefits. Can anyone provide more information on whether this is appropriate?
Edit: Thanks for all of the quick replies! I agree with what everyone has said so far. I just wanted to make sure. I informed my colleague to not submit the notice.
The most fucked up thing about is that the request came from an HR representative.
