Why this 69-year-old DJ is trying to change his legal age to 49
A 69-year-old Dutch man is attempting to legally change his age because he doesn’t get enough swipes right on Tinder.
Emile Ratelband claims he feels like a youthful 49, and so has started a legal battle in an attempt to reduce his age by twenty years. The ‘positivity guru’ and part-time DJ is suing his local authority for refusing to change his age on official documents.
He was born on 11th March 1949, but wants to change his birthday to the 11th March 1969, and he claims that doctors agree he has the body of a man twenty years younger, describing himself as ‘a young god’.
Emile said in court: ‘I have done a check-up and what does it show? My biological age is 45 years.
‘When I’m 69, I am limited. If I’m 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different car. I can take up more work.
‘When I’m on Tinder and it say I’m 69, I don’t get an answer. When I’m 49, with the face I have, I will be in a luxurious position.’
He continued to argue that if people can change their gender, he should be allowed to amend his age.
‘Transgenders can now have their gender changed on their birth certificate, and in the same spirit there should be room for an age change,’ Emile said.
A judge reportedly asked him how his parents would feel about it, given that he would be legally erasing the first twenty years of his life.
‘For whom did your parents care in those years? Who was that little boy back then?’ the judge remarked.
The local court in Arnhem is due to deliver a written ruling within the next four weeks.
