401K hacked, my company wants me to confirm the amount in my account on 12/31/18
Finance guy at my company called the other day saying my 401k was hacked and $19k was taken, but they were working on recovery. Yesterday I get a letter saying to confirm the amount I had in my account as of 12/31/18.
How the hell can I do that? Why would I know that number? I can’t even trust logging into my account because I have no idea if that info is correct now anyway. Any thoughts/advice?
Edit: The finance guy is indeed our finance guy for the company. He said he was in talks with the 401k people about this in trying to recover the money.
Edit 2: Communication thus far has been a phone call on my work line from him, and a letter with my company letterhead saying “Our auditors, Xxxxxx, xxxxx’s address, are conducting an audit of (Mycompany’s) 401k plan’s financial statements as of 12/31/18 and for the year then ended. Please confirm directly to our auditors, the following information, as shown by our records, relating to your participation in (Mycompany’s) 401k plan.” Called my 401k company and they see it as a $19k loan to my address. My online portal shows a $19k loan, but the balance (about 2x that) is seemingly untouched. They told me to call the company administrator who, yes, is a person who works in our main office and has for the decade I’ve worked here. Will call tomorrow. Thank you for the outpouring of support thus far. I am in no-man’s land when it comes to this stuff. <3
